What if we are wrong, America?
And
we actually need the God we shun
And
that same God is trying to be gracious to us
And
get our attention in any way He can
What
if He knows what’s best for our country?
And
we continue to try and do things our way
And
we pretend that a human can solve our problems
And
reject the God who is desperate to save
What
if in our selfish pride we continue on the path we are on?
And
foolishly think we can ultimately control anything at all
And
we fail to hear His faint voice in the sadness of our world
And
make ourselves so big in our minds and God to be so small
What
if people are afraid to speak out to expose all the lies?
And we grow ultra tolerant and complacent in an effort to not offend
And
we cry more about our hardships here and now
And
we forget that God is compassionate and His love knows no end
What
if the storms both literal and figural are blessings in disguise?
And God reaches out to us and gives us one more chance
And
we can turn back to Him and run into wide-open arms
And experience the peace of forgiveness in His fatherly glance
What
if we miss it completely, in our attempt to run this race solo?
And
the greatness of country we once knew is all washed away
And
God is there the whole time ready to make amends
And
He weeps as we continually choose darkness over the day
What
if we as Americans will return to the faith that started it all?
And
know it is only by God’s grace that He gives us each new breath
And
we will be slow to be as arrogant as we for so long have been
And kneel at the feet of our Maker & ask Him to rescue us from death
"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14
